Brookfield Farm Winter Share - only 5 left
Once again, we are pleased to offer our Winter Share for those of you who want the same great locally-produced, farm fare that you've been used to during the growing season during the cold winter months. Of course, it will still be seasonal eating, so we're not talking about melons in February. This is New England, and we're going to eat like it - that means potatoes, cabbage, carrots, squash, onions, leeks, beets, parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, celeriac, kale, and collards. Our goal is to provide your family with a share of these crops into the winter.
Last winter we had a great experience with our Winter Share and over 300 families made their way through bins of cabbage and roots in the cellar. They got squash & onions from the walk-in "warmer" and they even picked kale in the snow! Overall, their evaluations were very positive and we've decided to basically keep the share the same for the coming winter.
One important improvement we will be making is that we will be improving the lighting in the cellar so it will be easier to pick out your produce.
Here's the other highlights, just so you remember:
1) Distribution will happen every other week (Monday thru Sunday,8am - 7pm) self-serve, directly out of the root cellar.
2) The share will be the same size as last year - targeted to be a minimum of 30 lbs per month. The crops generally look good in the field (but it is still early, and it's a share of the harvest, so quantities will vary). The potatoes were effected by the Late Blight, earlier this summer, but they look good to harvest and we now expect to have a good storage crop.
4) Distribution will be from December through March.
5) The produce will NOT be washed (too cold for the farmers and the barn water pipes).
6) The parking lot will be plowed and sanded.
