Our On-Farm Senior Share
all the details For Senior shareHolders who pick up at the farm
What's in a Senior Share?
Throughout the season, your weekly share is made up of the freshest vegetables available from the farm. The variety and amount in the share depend on the season and the weather.
Your share will include between 4 and 11 lbs. (8 lbs. avg.) of produce each week - from the first week of June 'til Thanksgiving. (Your share will be half the size of our regular share).
The majority of your share is freshly harvested by our crew. When you pick up your share at the Farm Shop, you'll see bins of vegetables laid out. For the most part, your share will be "mix and match," so you can choose what is in your share.
The remaining 10% of your share is Pick Your Own. The PYO portion of your share will also be listed, by volume, on a chalkboard in the farm shop. There will be a map to make sure you can find the crops in the fields behind the barn, and a helpful apprentice to answer any questions. PYO crops include berries, peas, beans, herbs, cherry tomatoes, flowers and more. Each senior share comes with a pass to drive closer to the crops down our dirt "farm roads" on either side of the PYO fields. You'll get a pass with your share, and a shopkeeper will show you which roads are available on opening day. The PYO is open for driving pass holders on Sundays during a designated time window. Also, we have volunteer shareholders who periodically pick extra of the PYO and make it available in the farm shop for seniors who can't make it out into the fields.
We think this will be sufficient produce for 1 senior (cooking often), or 2 seniors (cooking sometimes).
We understand that seniors needs vary! You may choose to take your share when it's convenient for you. This may look like a half share each week, or a full share on some weeks, and not to come on others. We'll be glad to see you in the shop whenever works for you! If half the regular amount is still too much food, or you would like to talk with us about your specific needs, please give us a call at (413) 253-7991 or send an e-mail.
Your share also includes
- The senior share also includes a "parking pass" for the easy-access parking spot by the barn, and any help you need getting your share to your vehicle.
- The opportunity to purchase our own bulk produce, when available, at wholesale prices. Great for feeding a crowd, or for canning and freezing.
- The opportunity to purchase Brookfield Farm raised beef and pork, when available.
- A weekly newsletter during harvest season with recipes, farm news, and other good stuff!
- Access to Brookfield Farm's 50 acres of land for recreational use
- The opportunity for your family to participate in educational programs and seasonal festivals
Our Harvest Schedule
Here's what you can expect from the seasonal produce in your share. The season begins with an abundance of greens, as well as spicy radishes, scallions and sweet hakurei turnips. We also often distribute our own popcorn in spring. These early greens-heavy shares soon give way to the fruits of summer, when the cucumbers and summer squash come in. Next comes carrots, cabbages, napa cabbages, beets, fennel etc. And then the tomatoes! And sweet corn!! And the eggplant, sweet peppers and hot peppers, to round out your ratatouille. Followed by fresh onions and then the fall harvest really sets in: broccoli and cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and of course, winter squash. Here's our harvest calendar for a visual representation.

2The Farm Shop
Local shareholders come to the farm for pick-up. We set the share up "market-style," in order to offer shareholders a great deal of choice. We also sell staple foods and treats from other local producers.
FARM SHOP HOURS
Tuesday & Thursday 2pm - 7pm
Saturday 8am - 1pm
The Farm Shop is open three days per week. Each week (our week starts on Saturday), you can choose to come on whichever day is most convenient for you. You can Pick Your Own any time it's light outside!, (but your driving access pass is good for Sundays from 2 - 4 PM).
How do I know what is the right amount of produce for me?
Since, for most people, this is a new way of buying food, it is sometimes difficult to determine how it all will work in real life! We feel confident that our recommendations are accurate. Of course, if you are still not sure, please call us and we will have you speak with a current shareholder.
have a question?
