Our On-Farm
Regular Season Senior Share

all the details For Senior shareHolders who pick up at the farm

What's in a Senior Share?

  • Throughout the season, your weekly share is made up of the freshest vegetables available from the farm. The variety and amount in the share depend on the season and the weather.

  • The senior share is exactly half of the full farm share. Your share will include between 4 and 11 lbs. of produce each week depending on the time of year- from the first week of June 'til Thanksgiving.

The senior share is meant to be a smaller amount of food. If you find that this amount of produce is not enough for your needs, you can always increase your share to a full share or buy produce in bulk when it is available.

  • The majority of your share is freshly harvested by our crew. For the most part, we will distribute with a "mix and match” system, so you can choose what is in your share but sometimes you will have to make choices between items because of the limited size of the senior share.

  • The remaining 10% of your share is Pick Your Own. These crops will be well marked, easy to find, plentiful, and enjoyable to pick with your family. PYO crops include berries, peas, beans, herbs, cherry tomatoes, and flowers. Our accessible garden beds at the front of the farm has easy to pick herbs and flowers for those who have a hard time stooping and kneeling.

  • We think this will be sufficient produce for 1 senior (cooking often), or 2 seniors (cooking sometimes).

  • We understand that seniors needs vary! You may choose to take your share when it's convenient for you. This may look like a half share each week, or a full share every other week. We'll be glad to see you in the shop whenever works for you!

How do I know what is the right amount of produce for me?

The Senior Share was established to give our senior community an share option that met their needs of needs of less produce then a full share. You may find this is the perfect share size or you may need a full share if you eat lots of vegetables and cook often. You can always purchase additional produce in the share room or bump up to the full share if you need more produce.

Your share also includes

  • The opportunity to purchase our own bulk produce, when available, at wholesale prices. Great for feeding a crowd, or for canning and freezing.

  • The opportunity to purchase Brookfield Farm raised beef and pork, when available.

  • A weekly newsletter during harvest season with recipes, farm news, and other good stuff!

  • Access to Brookfield Farm's 50 acres of land for recreational use

  • The opportunity for your family to participate in seasonal events and educational programs.

SEASONAL AVAILABILITY

Here's what you can expect from your share: The season begins with an abundance of greens, as well as spicy radishes, scallions and sweet hakurei turnips. We also often distribute our own popcorn in spring. These early greens-heavy shares soon give way to the fruits of summer, when the cucumbers and summer squash begin to ripen. Next comes carrots, cabbages, beets, fennel, and scallions. Then the tomatoes! And the sweet corn!! And the eggplant, sweet peppers and hot peppers, melons, and fresh onions, to round out your summer. Then the fall harvest really sets in with broccoli and cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and of course, winter squash.
