Dear Friends,
Everywhere around us there are the sure signs of fall. The hills are shades of golden yellow and red, and the fields are bathed in the beautiful light of autumn. We have had our first frost scare and each day is shorter than the last. We are busy as ever bringing in the harvest, ensuring we have a bountiful winter.
As the world gets colder and darker we can feel the inevitable end of the season approach. It’s in these first cold days of fall that we begin to dream of the next season to come. As we harrow old crops and seed fall cover we can start to see the next year take shape in our mind’s eye. As we begin to dream of another season at Brookfield Farm we are thrilled to announce that we are opening renewals for the 2026 season!
As Kerry and I are finishing up our 5th year here at Brookfield Farm, we are starting to feel more and more at home here. While the farm very much remains the same as when we got here, a lot has changed. We have purchased fields we have grown on for years, securing the future of the farm. We tinkered with the crop plan and tried out some new things like broccolini and fresh fall radishes. We have figured out a way to give the apprentices 2 days off a week for most of the season, ensuring they are better rested and less over worked.
We have watched our child go from his first day of kindergarten at Crocker Farm to hoping on the bus every morning on his way to 4th grade. We have watched the children who come with their families to pick up veggies grow as well. We love it here at Brookfield Farm and are so happy that we get to be a part of this wonderful tradition as the farm continues to move forward in an ever changing world
There is also much security in knowing that we have the support of our community behind us. Putting seeds in the dark, cold ground in the spring and hoping that those seeds grow is an act of faith. We do what we can to put our crops in the best position to succeed, we spread compost, we kill weeds, we fret and worry over them but ultimately a large part of it is completely out of our hands. The seeds germinate or they don’t. We can’t force them to. Regardless of the weather, regardless of what is happening in the world we grow food. It’s what we do and we could not do it without you. This is why we love the CSA model: all of us support each other at the start of a new season, not knowing what it will bring but willing to take the risk jointly as a community.
We are keeping the renewal process the same as last year and are asking that you renew your share by October 24. After that time, we will fill the rest of the shares on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not delay; we don’t want to lose you!
Thank you all so much, whether this was your first season or you have been a member since the beginning. You are a part of this farm, and we couldn’t exist without you. We sincerely hope that you will join us in 2026. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to feed your family and do what we love in a place we love so much.
