Thanksgiving CSA Shares and store
share a local feast with your friends and family this thanksgiving
What's in a Share?
The Thanksgiving share will have all the veggies you need for your Thanksgiving table in quantity so you will have lots of leftovers. The share will include: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, turnips, rutabagas, parsnips, garlic, onions, winter squash, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and winter squash.
When is the Thanksgiving share and store?
Boston area shareholders can pick up their box at their usual share pick up location and times on Thursday, November 20.
Local on farm pick-ups in Amherst are Saturday November 22, 8AM-1 PM and Tuesday November 25, 2 PM - 6:30 PM.
How much is a share?
The Thanksgiving share price is $40.
All are welcome to shop for produce at retail price if you do not purchase a share. Regular season and winter season shareholders will receive 15% off vegetable purchases.
Additional produce will be available for sale as well as other local goods including eggs, dairy and apples.
The thanksgiving store and shop are new for 2025.
What is this all about?
This year the regular season share ends November 8. The farm will take a break from the CSA for two weeks to finish up the fall harvest, prepare the farm for winter and plant our garlic.
But don’t worry, you will still be able to have Brookfield veggies at your Thanksgiving table. This year you may purchase a Thanksgiving share or come shop for your thanksgiving table or both! All are welcome to sign up for a share and shop, so spread the word.
Why the change?
We know change is hard especially for those who have been members of the farm for a long time but are certain this was an important change for the long term viability of Brookfield Farm. As the new managers at Brookfield Farm, we recognized some important updates the farm needed to sustain itself for the long term.
One area we focused in on was making the farm more friendly to the staff, both through a friendlier workplace like keeping a 5 day work week and more comfortable work environment (not working shares in the cold and dark after a long, hard season) and increasing wages, thereby improving our recruitment pool for our apprentice program. We are certain you all want our staff paid fairly as well.
Daily CSA operations take up ALOT of our crew’s time, 4 mornings a week we are harvesting for it and 3 days a week we are in the share - all this is happening right up to Thanksgiving as the crew is also grinding to pull in tens of thousands of pounds of produce, clean up the farm, assess and repair equipment, plant our garlic, and get ready for the winter share. Your farmers who grew all of the produce for your Thanksgiving table are often working through the Thanksgiving holiday.
Additionally, as we all know, prices are rising on everything. We also feel this on the farm and need to increase the farm revenue to keep up with cost increases in the farm’s operations and capital improvements. We’ve all seen it in the grocery store and it is a reality here too. The farm simply can’t operate in a competitive environment without revenue increases.
As you can see, while there is a financial component to this change, we can not express enough our extreme relief we are feeling now that we have made it. It both increases farm income that translates to higher crew salaries and also addresses farmer quality of life by giving the farmers a break from the CSA grind so we can prepare for the winter.
By ending the share on November 8th we still go deeper into the fall than most, if not all other valley and Boston areas farms’ regular season shares. We are excited to offer the Thanksgiving share to everyone including shareholders of other farms whose seasons end earlier so they can come and see what its all about. Our dream is the Thanksgiving share will become a festive “thing” that you can share with friends and enjoy as we move into the holiday season.
We are certain we remain extremely cost competitive with other CSAs in the area and encourage you to shop around if you like.
We appreciate your ongoing support of the farm. We are striving to keep Brookfield Farm strong and resilient for many years to come and hope you will be with us through it all.
